Which children’s books does a children’s author love except for her own?
- The Cat in the Hat - this is my absolute favorite and I must have read it over a hundred times throughout my childhood - easily! What could beat the playfulness of the dialogue, rhythm and rhyme?
- Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia (I Can Read Book 2) - this one is just absolutely wacky! It’s wonderful because it highlights how words pronounced in the same way can mean two completely different things. Did you know that you don’t make a date cake by cutting your calendar and dumping the numbers into the dough?
- The Berenstain Bears and the Truth (First Time Books(R)) - this is just one of the many Berenstein Bears books I’ve read. These have more text than the picture books that are now being published but they do teach you about a lot of necessary things little bears… I mean little kids need to know (like manners!)
- Curious George - who hasn’t heard of the man in the yellow hat and his mischievous little monkey! I have a whole box of these. I remember that flipping the pages of these books is what birthed the desire in me to become a Picture Book Author.
- The Little Prince - this is something I had to read for school and even though I considered the school books less exciting than the books I read for pleasure - this one was different! It’s a beautiful story about life disguised as a children’s book.
