Parent, Do You Read for Pleasure?

We expect our children to read but do we do it ourselves - for pleasure? Australian author Christopher Cheng argues that parents and teachers need to give an example to children by reading for pleasure themselves, before expecting children to do so as well. I couldn’t agree with him more.

This relates to anything we want to teach our children. If we want them to talk about their emotions, we should talk about ours. If we want them to say “please” and “thank you,” so should we. If we want them to be kind and considerate, so should we. We are heroes to our children and they will proudly replicate any behavior of ours, so - as Gandhi would say - let’s be the change that we wish to see in the world 🙂
