Should Celebrities Write Children’s Books?

There has been some discussion online about the quality of children’s books written by celebrities. Some argue that they should stick to what they do best, which is often acting. Others, like myself, are more liberal and believe that if executed well, celebrities should also be able to publish books for kids. They can probably get away with writing longer stories than the industry standard and some other rule breaking because many people will buy their books just to get their signature on it. But hey, they worked hard to be who they are and this is just one of the perks!

Next month I will be receiving a book award together with Jim Carrey. We have both been nominated in the same category in the Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Contest and now we will be receiving gold and silver. Will I buy his book? Of course - it’s a great opportunity to get his autograph regardless of the book’s quality (which by the way might be excellent - I just haven’t read it yet.)

Whatever the caliber of the author, reading their books is the best way to get to know them. This is true for both Hollywood celebrities like Carrey and for micro-celebrities like myself 🙂

P.S. What is a “micro-celebrity”? I read that it’s a person known to 1500+ people. My mailing lists are larger than that 😉
